EDPJ5023 Teacher Professional Development for EFL
Description
You are required to design a 60-minute workshop program of about 3000 words in length for language teacher professional development, including an overview of a chosen topic (You can choose any participant group of teachers). The program should be self-contained so that it can be delivered by any person without a need of any additional materials. Your workshop program should contain:
- a participants profile
- objectives or outcomes
- a brief program outline (similar to a lesson plan in format)
- an overview of research (about 2 pages) of the topic you have chosen
- a detailed workshop program with a range of tasks (in varied modes) to engage participants ⚫ any resources/materials that participants can take home with, and
- a full reference
You may consider structuring your program writing following the three phases: WHAT (contents), WHY(reasons) and HOW (strategies). Remember: Your role is that of a facilitator and the focus is on experiential and interactive learning.
Although a list of topics is given, you may choose to focus on any other topics related to language classroom practices.
Assessment criteria
Assessment tasks will be marked according to the following criteria. Participants are expected to display in their work:
- evidence of understanding of and critical reflection on reading and research
undertaken on a chosen topic within and /or beyond the material provided during lecture and/or workshop sessions - evidence of reflection on and integration of their prior learning and teaching experiences
- understanding and knowledge of basic principles and procedures to develop a workshop program on experiential learning
- competence and skills to apply principles and strategies in designing a workshop program on an aspect of English language teaching
- a good range of interactive tasks to engage participants for experiential learning at the various stages of the workshop
