Week 4 Assignment – Elevator Pitch
For this week’s assignment, you’ll take the first steps to getting support for your product, service, or business idea by coming up with an “elevator pitch.” This speech of 1-3 minutes convinces your audience—a venture capitalist or other investor (or donor if you’re a non-profit)—that you have the answers to three critical questions: What is your business idea? Who is your target market? And how will you execute the business?
So, imagine you have met an investor in the elevator—how will you convince them to support your business idea?
Instructions
Record a video of 1-3 minutes or less in which you address the following:
What? Describe how your business idea will meet a need or solve a problem. Provide examples of how your business creates a product or a service that will serve a purpose.
Who? Identify your target market and how the business will meet their needs. How do you know the market exists? How does the product or service meet their needs? Offer evidence and examples that you have identified for your target market and that it needs this product or service.
How? Explain how you will execute the business idea by providing evidence of sales or concrete plans to test sales to the target market. This may include opening in a physical location, partnering with an organization, creating an online presence, or other detail.
Demonstrate passion for the business or business idea based on the content and quality of expression. The elevator pitch is a perfect opportunity to convince a potential investor that you have the vision and determination to carry out your idea. Convey that passion using your tone of voice, word choice, and selection of arguments.
