Week 4 Assignment – Product Development Plan: Customer Persona
Overview
Throughout the course, you will complete a Product Development Plan for a product associated with your current business, a business you hope to create, or one that you are familiar with. In Part A of your plan, you will create a customer persona. As you recall from your reading, a customer persona is a tool used to describe your target customer. It gives a thorough definition of your user and what they want to accomplish. Product development teams use customer personas to emphasize user-centered design. They also are a good way to show your hypotheses about your target customers.
Instructions
You will develop a customer persona using the Customer Persona Template [DOCX] Download Customer Persona Template [DOCX]. The customer persona should be no more than five pages in length.
- Create your customer persona by entering the customer’s specific information in each of the following fields.
- Customer Persona Name.
- Come up with a fictitious name for your customer persona (for example, Betty Smith or Tim Featherstone).
- Photograph.
- Choose a picture of a person that is representative of what your typical customer might look like.
- Quote that conveys what they most care about.
- For example, “Fitness is everything,” “I want to look good, but don’t want to spend a lot of money doing so,” or “Taking care of my family and feeding them healthy meals are top priorities for me.”
- Customer Persona Job Title.
- Use a job title that your average customer might have, such as “CEO” or “Stay at Home Mom.”
- Customer Persona Name.
- Demographic Information.
- Discuss why it is important to identify customer demographics for your product or service. Include why you selected the demographics you did for your product or service.
- Customer Needs and Goals.
- Discuss how understanding your customers’ needs and goals assists in the development and improvement of your product or service. Include why you selected the needs and goals you did.
- Customer Motivations and Attitudes.
- Discuss how understanding your customer motivations and attitudes assists in the development and improvement of your product.
- Include your rationale for the motivation and attitude selection.
- Discuss how understanding your customer motivations and attitudes assists in the development and improvement of your product.
- Customer Frustrations and Pain Points with Current Solutions.
- Describe how understanding your customers’ frustrations and pain points with their current solution assists in the development and improvement of your product or service.
- Adoption Life Cycle Segment (Technology):
- Describe why understanding where your product is in the life cycle is important. Include why you selected the life cycle you did for your product or service.
