Solution – PHAR 1000 Assignment
Right Medication and Diagnosis
Captopril- Hypertension related to coronary artery disease
Levothyroxine- hypothyroidism
Mechanism of Action
Captopril- the drug prevents the conversion of angiotensin 1 to angiotensin 2, which is a potent vasoconstrictor (Wilkins, 2020). Further, another result of this enzymatic blockade is tha aldosterone production decreases, thereby reducing the amount of sodium and water retained in the body. Ultimately, the blood pressure lowers.
Levothyroxine- it acts to replace the amount of thyroid hormones in the body, majorly T4. It has
several body effects, including regulating cell growth and differentiation, stimulating protein
synthesis, stimulating glucose production by the liver, mobilizing glycogen stores, and increasing
the basal metabolic rate (Wilkins, 2020).
Pharmacologic Class
Captopril: Angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor (ACEIs)
Levothyroxine: thyroid replacement drug
